Individuals with Down Syndrome can benefit greatly from structured movement programmes designed to enhance strength, coordination, and overall wellbeing.
Down Syndrome exercise therapy focuses on improving motor skills, posture, and cardiovascular health whilst fostering independence in daily activities.
At Healthstin, our Down Syndrome exercise therapy programmes are designed to suit different ages and skill levels, ensuring safe and effective workouts that promote lifelong movement.
We understand the importance of making exercise engaging, safe, and beneficial for individuals with Down Syndrome. Whether through one-on-one training or group-based activities, our Allied Health Team is committed to helping individuals improve their strength, mobility, and confidence through Down Syndrome physical exercise.

Individuals with Down Syndrome often experience hypotonia (low muscle tone) and increased joint flexibility. Our Exercise Physiologists design strength-based programmes that focus on joint stabilisation and core strength. This helps you stand or sit taller, stay steady on your feet, and gives you the energy you need for your daily routine and getting out and about.
Cardiovascular health is a priority as it supports long-term vitality. We create engaging, low-impact aerobic programmes that strengthen the heart and lungs at a safe, individualised pace, helping maintain a healthy weight and support energy levels.
Hydrotherapy is a valuable choice. The water provides a supportive environment that makes it easier to work on balance and coordination. The natural resistance of the water also helps strengthen muscles and improve proprioception—the body’s ability to sense its position in space—which is often a focus in Down Syndrome therapy.
We take a person-centred approach. Our clinicians are experienced in using various communication methods, including visual aids, simplified instructions, and demonstrations, to support the participant’s understanding of movements. We focus on building a strong, trusting rapport with every participant to support their confidence.
Down Syndrome is a common qualifying condition for the NDIS. Most of our participants utilise funding from Capacity Building (Improved Health and Wellbeing or Improved Daily Living). We work closely with families and support coordinators to align the programme with the participant’s NDIS goals.
We do. We usually start with one-on-one sessions to help you get strong and feel safe. Once you’re ready, we love to have you join our small group classes. It’s a great way to practice things like talking with others, taking turns, and working as a team, all in a friendly and supportive environment where our team is right there to help.
We recommend visiting our clinics. Our facilities are equipped with dedicated clinical equipment and Hydrotherapy pools, allowing for a more diverse and comprehensive programme than in a home setting. The clinic also provides a dedicated “learning space” that helps participants focus on their physical development.
Whether you’re dealing with pain, mobility issues, falls, or recovery, let us take the guesswork out. One of our experts will match you with the right service — at the right location and with the right funding — in under 10 minutes.
