Regular physical activity is one of the most effective strategies for managing depression and anxiety, as it helps elevate mood-regulating neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine.
Exercise lowers cortisol, the body's stress hormone; helping individuals feel calmer and more emotionally balanced.
Engaging in structured movement throughout the day helps regulate energy levels and promotes more restful sleep, which is essential for mental wellbeing.
Achieving exercise goals and improvements fosters a sense of accomplishment, reinforcing positive self-image and motivation.
Participating in group exercise sessions can ease feelings of loneliness and isolation by encouraging meaningful social engagement.
Activities like walking, cycling, or swimming help release endorphins and reduce stress hormones, lifting mood and easing anxiety symptoms.
Builds not only physical strength but also self-confidence and resilience, which can positively impact mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Combines movement with breath control and mindfulness to calm the nervous system, reduce tension, and improve emotional regulation.
Gentle stretching can help release physical tension held in the body, promoting relaxation and greater body awareness.
Shared activities in a supportive environment can reduce feelings of isolation, encourage social connection, and foster a sense of belonging.
Following a consistent plan helps build routine and purpose, improving motivation and reducing symptoms of low mood and anxiety over time.
Exercise is an evidence-based intervention that supports healthy brain function. Physical activity stimulates the release of neurochemicals like endorphins and serotonin while helping to manage the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. Our Exercise Physiologists design programmes that help regulate the nervous system, providing a structured way to manage symptoms and support overall mood.
When managing depression, the idea of a traditional gym workout can feel overwhelming. We focus on “pacing.” We do not begin with high-intensity activity; instead, we start with small, manageable movements that respect your current energy levels. The goal is to create a positive routine where movement gradually supports your energy rather than draining it.
Many participants with psychosocial disabilities access our services through their NDIS plan. This is typically funded under Capacity Building – Improved Health and Wellbeing. We focus on using exercise to build the physical and mental stamina required to achieve your social and community participation goals.
This approach means we look at the whole person. We recognise that your physical health (Bio), your thoughts and feelings (Psycho), and your social environment (Social) are all interconnected. By improving your physical strength and mobility, we provide a foundation that supports the work you may be doing with your psychologist or GP.
We prioritise your comfort. Healthstin clinics are professional health environments rather than commercial gyms. We provide a calm, supervised, and non-judgemental space where you are supported by university-qualified clinicians. If a clinic feels overwhelming, we also offer Home Visits or Telehealth sessions to get you started in a space where you feel safe.
Hydrotherapy can be supportive for nervous system relaxation. The warmth of the water helps manage physical tension, while the gentle hydrostatic pressure (the physical sensation of the water’s weight) can provide a grounding sensory experience that helps manage the physical symptoms of anxiety.
While you do not require a referral to book a private session, many participants visit us via a GP Management Plan (CDMP). This may allow you to access DVA, NDIS, and private health insurers to support your access to care.
Whether you’re dealing with pain, mobility issues, falls, or recovery, let us take the guesswork out. One of our experts will match you with the right service — at the right location and with the right funding — in under 10 minutes.
