If you’re wondering, “what type of condition is cerebral palsy?”, it is a group of disorders caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the brain before, during, or shortly after birth. It primarily affects muscle control, coordination, and posture, and can vary widely in severity.
If you or a loved one is managing a cerebral palsy condition, targeted exercise therapy can help improve mobility, reduce stiffness, and enhance overall physical function.
At Healthstin, our exercise specialists provide personalised therapy plans designed
to meet the unique needs of each individual.
At Healthstin, our compassionate team is committed to supporting individuals with Cerebral Palsy through evidence-based therapy. Whether you’re seeking a trusted Cerebral Palsy clinic for ongoing care or looking for specialised interventions to enhance mobility and wellbeing,
our Allied Health Team at Healhtstin is here to help.
Regular, structured physical activity plays a crucial role in managing symptoms by enhancing muscular strength, increasing flexibility, and promoting a greater range of motion for individuals with cerebral palsy.
Targeted exercises can help decrease involuntary muscle contractions and reduce joint stiffness, allowing for more fluid and comfortable movement.
Exercise therapy supports the development of core stability, better postural control, and improved motor planning, which are essential for balance and coordinated movements.
By focusing on mobility and physical skills, exercise programmes help individuals perform daily tasks more independently, contributing to a higher quality of life.
Aerobic exercises promote heart health, increase endurance, and support mental wellbeing, encouraging a more active and engaged lifestyle.
Exercises focused on building muscle strength to support posture, movement, and functional independence.
Regular stretching helps reduce muscle tightness, prevent contractures, and improve range of motion.
Targeted tasks such as stability drills and core exercises help enhance balance and reduce the risk of falls.
Walking practice, assisted treadmill sessions, or use of mobility aids to improve walking ability and movement control.
Water-based sessions support muscle relaxation, ease spasticity, and provide a safe space for movement with less joint pressure.
Exercises designed to refine both fine and gross motor skills, helping improve everyday function and confidence.
Exercise Physiology plays a key role in managing the physical symptoms of CP. Our clinicians design targeted programmes to help regulate muscle tone (spasticity), improve joint range of motion, and build postural strength. By focusing on motor learning, we help participants move more efficiently and manage the physical fatigue often associated with CP.
We utilise evidence-based strength and conditioning exercises to target the specific muscles required for walking and balance. Our clinicians work on gait retraining and stability exercises that help support confidence when navigating different surfaces at home, school, or in the community.
Hydrotherapy is an effective tool for CP. The warm water helps relax stiff muscles and makes it easier to manage “spasticity” (when muscles feel tight or jerky). Because the water holds you up, you can do movements that might be too hard or heavy to do on solid ground. It’s a gentle, low-stress way to build up your strength and get your heart pumping without putting pressure on your joints.
We provide support across the entire lifespan. We help children build the basic movement skills they need to reach important growth milestones, like crawling, walking, or jumping. For adults, we focus on helping you stay independent, reducing daily aches and pains, and preventing other health issues from developing over time.
Cerebral Palsy support is typically funded through the NDIS under Capacity Building (Improved Health and Wellbeing or Improved Daily Living). We are experienced in working with NDIS participants and provide the necessary progress reports and clinical evidence to support your plan reviews.
Our clinics are full of professional tools and special exercise equipment designed for people with different physical needs. This includes easy-to-use strength machines, tools to help with balance, and special lifts (hoists) to help you get in and out of our heated exercise pools safely. We make sure everyone can join in comfortably, no matter how much help they need with moving around.
We generally recommend an initial assessment at our clinic so we can utilise clinical diagnostic tools to measure muscle function and movement patterns. While we offer Home Visits for convenience, our clinics provide access to clinical equipment and pool facilities that offer a broad range of rehabilitation options.
Whether you’re dealing with pain, mobility issues, falls, or recovery, let us take the guesswork out. One of our experts will match you with the right service — at the right location and with the right funding — in under 10 minutes.
