At Healthstin, we understand that individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have unique challenges when it comes to movement, motor coordination, and
social interaction. Our autism spectrum therapists design evidence-based exercise programmes that cater to different levels of Autism Spectrum Disorder, promoting physical development, sensory integration, and emotional wellbeing.
Whether in a structured facility for autism support or within the community, our goal
is to create a safe and engaging environment for movement-based therapy.
At Healthstin, we believe that exercise is a powerful tool in supporting the development and wellbeing of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our autism spectrum therapists create tailored programmes to suit different levels of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ensuring that every individual can participate and thrive, whether at home, in a gym,
or within a facility for autism.
Many individuals with ASD experience challenges with balance, coordination, and fine or gross motor skills. Our structured programmes focus on improving these skills through targeted exercises and movement drills.
Exercise can help regulate sensory input by providing structured physical activity that allows for controlled movement experiences, reducing hypersensitivity or under-responsiveness to stimuli.
Group-based exercise therapy encourages interaction with peers, fostering communication and teamwork in a supportive setting within a facility for autism or community setting.
Structured exercise helps channel excess energy into purposeful movement, reducing self-stimulatory behaviours and improving concentration.
Physical activity has been shown to reduce anxiety and stress, supporting emotional stability and overall wellbeing in individuals with ASD.
Targeted exercises to develop muscle strength, balance, and motor control
Movements designed to support sensory integration, such as trampoline exercises, obstacle courses, and resistance training
Supervised gym-based workouts to encourage routine, focus, and physical endurance
Water-based therapy to improve motor function, coordination, and relaxation
Activities designed to foster communication, teamwork, and interaction in a supportive environment
Exercise physiology is a great way to help the body and brain work better together. For people on the spectrum, personalized exercise helps improve “motor planning”—which is just a fancy way of saying it helps the brain plan and carry out movements more easily. It also builds better coordination and “body awareness,” helping you feel more in control of how your body moves. It provides a constructive outlet for energy, which can help manage anxiety, support emotional regulation, and improve sleep quality.
We recognise that traditional gym settings can be overwhelming. Healthstin clinics are professional healthcare environments that offer a controlled atmosphere. Our clinicians can adjust the environment—such as lowering lighting or choosing quieter session times—to support a comfortable environment for those with sensory sensitivities.
Most participants access these services through their NDIS plan, typically under the Capacity Building category (Improved Health and Wellbeing or Improved Daily Living). We focus on building the physical skills and independence needed to support participants in achieving their specific NDIS goals.
We prioritise building a strong rapport and a sense of predictability. Our clinicians often utilise visual schedules, clear step-by-step instructions, and consistent routines to manage “new environment” anxiety. We begin at a pace that feels safe, gradually introducing new movements as participant confidence grows.
Hydrotherapy is often utilised as the water provides consistent proprioceptive input (gentle pressure), which can be calming for the nervous system. Our heated pools provide a low-impact environment that supports motor coordination and sensory processing.
We offer both. Most participants begin with One-on-One sessions to establish a relationship with their clinician and develop foundational movements. Once comfortable, some participants choose to transition to small-group sessions to practice social communication and turn-taking in a supervised, inclusive setting.
We understand that some individuals learn best in familiar environments. We offer Home Visits and Community Visits (such as meeting at a local park or school) to help apply physical skills to everyday life. We also offer Telehealth via our MyHealthPal app for those who prefer a virtual connection.
Whether you’re dealing with pain, mobility issues, falls, or recovery, let us take the guesswork out. One of our experts will match you with the right service — at the right location and with the right funding — in under 10 minutes.
